5 Hottest News from AI, React and TypeScript This Week
TypeScript goes to-go (Go), React performance tips and Agentic workflows
AI Agents Are the Hottest Topic in Tech Right Now!
These autonomous systems are revolutionizing how we interact with AI—perceiving environments, making decisions, and adapting through feedback. Unlike static LLMs, agents actively use tools and take decisive actions on your behalf. From managing emails to planning travel, they represent AI's exciting frontier. With tech giants pouring billions into development, what seemed like science fiction months ago is rapidly becoming our new reality. I Explain Agents in my most recent video!
This Week’s Sponsor
Thank you to Convex for sponsoring this week's newsletter! In my opinion, it is the best database for AI apps and I am excited to partner with them! Convex is amazing because it provides a backend platform that combines database, serverless functions, and real-time subscriptions in one unified platform. It dramatically simplifies full-stack development by eliminating the need for complex infrastructure management. Check out Convex.
My Top Picks This Week
1. React Performance Techniques Beyond React.memo
You don't always need React.memo
to optimize performance. A better approach is to keep state close to where it's needed and structure components in a way that avoids unnecessary re-renders. Using composition patterns can help, and being mindful of how custom hooks handle state changes is important too. Instead of relying on memoization, understanding how React's rendering works will lead to cleaner and more efficient code. Check out the full article here.
2. TypeScript Becoming 10X Faster by Moving Compiler to Go!
Microsoft is enhancing its TypeScript programming language by developing a native compiler and toolset, transitioning the existing TypeScript compiler from TypeScript/JavaScript to the Go programming language. This initiative aims to significantly improve performance, particularly in large codebases. The project, known as Project Corsa, is in its early stages. A preview of the native tsc
(TypeScript compiler) capable of command-line type checking is anticipated by mid-2025. Read more
3. V0: Figma to Shadcn Converter
I've been using V0 from Vercel to convert Figma designs directly to Shadcn components while building an AI Real Estate app on my daily livestreams. The tool handles the extraction of design tokens, generates responsive layouts, and maintains component hierarchy from your designs. It supports both React and Vue, with TypeScript integration built-in. The seamless conversion has significantly accelerated my development process. Check out the builds in action here and join me every weekday at 9:30PM PST to build it together.
4. PNPM: The Modern Package Manager
PNPM is a node package manager that helps to keep your lowly personal computer sane and your development environment efficient. Unlike traditional npm, pnpm uses a content-addressable store to avoid duplicate dependencies, significantly reducing disk space usage and improving installation speed. I've found it particularly valuable for large monorepos and projects with extensive dependency trees. Your machine's memory will thank you. Check it out here.
5. 10 Impressive Claude 3.7 Sonnet Capabilities
Claude 3.7 Sonnet is awesome and here are some amazing examples of its creative coding abilities including animating weather cards, simulation of school of fish using p5.js and my favorite - a self-aware snake game! These demonstrations showcase Claude's versatility in interactive programming. Check out the full showcase: Twitter thread
